Restoring Jaw Bone for Dental Implant Support

This involves restoring or regenerating bone in your jaw when it is not able to support implants otherwise. Post-extraction bone loss is common occurrence which can lead to significant ridge dimensional changes. For long-term success of a dental implant, sometimes it becomes necessary to increase the bone dimensions to accommodate an adequate sized dental implant. This procedure to increase the bone dimensions is called Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). GBR is a surgical procedure that uses barrier membranes with or without bone grafts or/and bone substitutes.

The Benefits

When periodontal disease occurs, the bone and gum tissue should ideally be firmly attached. However, this disease causes the supportive tissue and bone to deteriorate, resulting in the formation of gum pockets. If there is significant bone loss, the tooth may need to be extracted. Guided tissue bone regeneration is a procedure that helps regenerate lost bone and repairs the damage caused by periodontal disease. This treatment increases the chances of keeping your natural teeth and lowers the risk of serious health problems associated with periodontal disease.
