Crown lengthening procedure involves removing gum tissue and sometimes bone to increase the amount of tooth that is visible. It may be recommended by your dentist to aid in a restorative procedures for the following reasons:
- expose cavities beneath the gum line
- expose more tooth structure before a crown can be placed or
- expose fractured areas of tooth or
- assist in cosmetic procedures e.g. managing “gummy smile” or
- correcting gum levels of teeth especially in the esthetic areas.
