It’s Thanksgiving again! The best time of the year to catch up with family and friends, while feasting on roasted turkey, and give thanks for all the blessings in our life. Now is a good time to also be grateful for the gorgeous smile and beautiful set of teeth. To make sure you wear that beautiful smile all throughout the coming holidays, our dental team at Larwin Square Dentistry has put together this Thanksgiving dental tips so you can avoid spoiling the rest of the coming holidays with dental issues, such as toothache or broken filling.

EAT SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY

Watch what you eat because turkeys have bones. Eat slowly and chew on the food gently. Avoid biting firmly when eating to avoid breaking your teeth, dentures or fillings. TLimit your consumption of sticky or chewy food, specially if you just recently had your dental fillings or dentures done.

DRINK MORE WATER

If you’re going to be eating a lot of food or drinking juices or carbonated drinks, make sure to drink lots of water between meals and throughout the day. Sips of water can help wash away the acid, food particles and improve your saliva flow, which prevents plaque from developing and helps fight tooth decay.

FLOSS, BRUSH AND RINSE

During Thanksgiving and the holiday season, you need to be more vigilant and take extra care of your teeth because of all the meals and desserts you’ll be having with families and friends. Carry a travel-size toiletries with pocket size toothpaste, toothbrush, floss and mouthwash. Take a short break to the restroom after eating and quickly floss, brush and rinse your mouth.

CHEW A SUGAR-FREE GUM

Chew on a sugar-free gum after a meal to rid your mouth of food particles lodged between your teeth and beneath the gum line. Furthermore, gums help maintain healthy flow of saliva, which is known to aid in the digestion of food.

SCHEDULE A POST-THANKSGIVING DENTAL CLEANING

Schedule a visit with one of our staff and dentists at Larwin Square Dentistry for professional dental cleaning, check up or other dental services, such as cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics or teeth whitening. This will help prevent any dental issues and will ensure you keep that beautiful and bright smile for more holidays.
